The second-place Chicago Cubs have drifted to just five games over .500 and 4.0 games back in the standings. They’ve won just 3 of their 10 total games against the Brewers so far this season, and have a really tough matchup against Brandon Woodruff tonight. Fortunately, Corbin Burnes, who was supposed to start tomorrow in the finale against the Cubs, was pushed back a game for Milwaukee, so the Cubs still do have a legitimate shot at winning this series. But in order to do so, they’ll have to first win tonight.
Speaking of tonight … Zach Davies, starting for the Cubs, was really solid his last time out (he threw 6.0 no-hit innings against the Dodgers) and the Brewers are one of the worst offenses against right-handed pitching this season … but they also know him very well from his five seasons in Milwaukee. And that’s not an insignificant advantage. I suppose we’ll see who comes out on top soon enough.
Remember, no Anthony Rizzo or Kris Bryant tonight, but Willson Contreras is back in there. Go Cubs.
