Zach Davies is on a pretty decent run since the start of May (2.80 ERA over 64.1 IP), and the Cubs’ starters are on a streak of THREE straight solid outings (no way!). If he can keep it up tonight, perhaps the Cubs’ bats can squeeze out three or four runs and end the losing streak.
Matt Moore has mostly been terrible in his return to MLB this year – some starts, some relief appearances – but he’s coming off his best outing of the year, throwing five scoreless against the Mets.
A loss would not only put the Cubs’ streak into double digits, but it would also put them back under .500. Any hopes of being buyers at the deadline will pretty much require that the Cubs win at least five of the seven games on this homestand (paired with a lot of losing by the Brewers, paired with even more winning after the All-Star break (it remains a long shot at this point, and, as we’ve discussed, of debatable merit in any case))).
The Cubs will have a new back-up catcher in tow for this one, bringing in Robinson Chirinos. That’s six of ’em!
