The Cubs officially have a new lefty pitching prospect, as top pick Jordan Wicks has signed with the team just days after he was drafted. So that’s great!
Russell Dorsey was first with the report, and Maddie Lee added that it was a slot value signing. Slot for Wicks’ pick was $3,132,300, and that’s about where he was expected to come in (especially given that he was considered a top 20 prospect in the draft by virtually all pundits).

Wicks, 21, was the top college lefty in the draft, and the Cubs were quite pleased to snag him with the 21st overall pick. It remains to be seen how much pro pitching he does this year after a full college season. A quick signing certainly helps, as Wicks can soon head to Arizona to start the intake and evaluation process, and then maybe he gets in a few outings later this year at rookie ball (or *maybe* at Low-A Myrtle Beach).
Wicks probably slots in as a top ten prospect for the Cubs immediately, right around that 5, 6, 7, 8 range? Your mileage may vary.
