The Chicago Cubs are a very different team today than they were a couple weeks ago, but the show must go on! Here’s David Ross second-post Rizzo/Baez/Bryant/Pederson/Marisnick lineup of the season.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
1. Rafael Ortega, CF
2. Willson Contreras, C
3. Ian Happ, LF
4. Patrick Wisdom, 1B
5. David Bote, 3B
6. Jason Heyward, RF
7. Sergio Alcantara, 2B
8. Andrew Romine, SS
9. Kyle Hendricks, P
The first two third-thirds of today’s Cubs lineup looks identical to yesterday (and in line with our post-deadline expectations), with the exception of David Bote playing third base after covering second last night. The final third, however, is where things change – positionally and in terms of personnel.
Sergio Alcantara moves up from 8th to 7th while moving from shortstop (for Nico Hoerner (for Javy Baez)) to second base. And in his place, the Cubs are giving his first start as a Cub. And just so you’re not confused: Yes, this is the brother of Cubs back-up catcher Austin Romine. Andrew is a long-time veteran who’s been hitting well at Triple-A Iowa.
The Nationals haven’t officially identified their starter yet, so we’ll have to dig in on that in the pre-gamin’ post closer to game time (6:05 CT).
