Is this the … good version of a Cubs game these days? Competitive for much of the game, not completely blown out, no hilarious Cubes error to drop the game late, and a chance to tie things up in the 9th? Just a good old fashioned normal loss? Is that happiness now?
Frank Schwindel continues to try to carry the Cubs, homering for their only run. So it wasn’t a good game, mind you. Just a standard one.
Alec Mills pitched well enough, as he has for most of his starting stretch this year, allowing just a couple runs through 5.2. A big swing from Jesus Aguilar against Jake Jewell gave the Marlins their other two runs.
That’s a sweep, and the Cubs “pass” the Marlins in the reverse standings, if you’d like something to be happy about. Hate the losing all you want, but the reality is, the outcome of this series was probably pretty good for the Cubs in the years ahead.
