Alec Mills gets the ball for the Cubs today, after being robbed of a start by the rain his last time out (he got through just 2.1 scoreless innings before it was delayed).
With that said, Mills has been on a really nice stretch since joining the rotation in mid-June, pitching to a 3.38 ERA (3.29 FIP) with a tiny walk rate and a ton of ground balls.
Like Adbert Alzolay, lefties are his weakness, but he’ll face only two of them in the Marlins lineup today. Hopefully, with Jake Arrieta out the door and Alzolay on the Injured List, Mills can stay healthy and gobble up plenty of innings down the stretch.
Oh, the Cubs have also lost 10 games in a row and could match a season-high 11 game losing streak with another loss this afternoon.
Go Cubs.
