Patrick Wisdom’s 20th homer was the only hit of the game for the Cubs, who lost for the second straight day to the Royals. Kris Bubic was very good, but also the Cubs’ lineup is not exactly mighty at the moment.
It was a mixed start for Keegan Thompson, who wasn’t quite on point in a very long first inning, which pretty much torpedoed the length of what his starting day could be. He wound up lasting just four innings, allowing a couple runs on five hits and two walks. He didn’t miss many bats (remember that weird issue with him?), and notched just one strikeout. So, while you like the poise and him being able to recover a bit after the first inning, the overall outcome against a similarly-rough Royals lineup wasn’t all that great.
The Cubs lost a chance at taking a run off the board when the blocking-the-plate rule was invoked, and that always pisses people off. I thought it was correctly applied this time, but I’ll get into it more when I don’t have three kids crawling all over me screaming that I need to wrap this thing up.
Trevor Megill looked really awesome for the fourth straight outing, for whatever that’s worth. Manny Rodriguez has been on a similar streak. We take what we can get.
