Even if it wasn’t so late, I wouldn’t have enough time (or words) to properly explain just how impressive Shohei Ohtani has been this season. Sure, he’s flashed this level of dominance in spurts earlier in his career, but he is finally putting it all together – on both sides of the ball – and doing it better than almost anybody else.
As a brief example of what I mean … as of tonight, Ohtani’s 42 home runs lead MLB, while his 3.00 ERA ranks 21st among all pitchers with at least 100 IP this season.
But as if all of that wasn’t enough, Ohtani just STOLE HOME.

This man is having a season for the ages!

Sure, it was a delayed double-steal that caught the catcher off guard and came with a poorly placed relay throw back to home, but COME ON. This guy is a lights-out pitcher *and* is leading MLB with 42 home runs.
It’s just unbelievable in every sense of the word. He is truly a unicorn and we are very lucky to watch him play.
