The Chicago Cubs’ Double-A affiliate lost most of their games last week to an apparent COVID outbreak, and they’re still not ready to get back underway.
This sucks big-time for the players and the clubs. The Tennessee Smokies will miss at least another couple days:
To allow for additional testing and contact tracing following a positive COVID-19 test in the Tennessee organization, Tuesday and Wednesday’s games (8/31 + 9/1) at Toyota Field between the Trash Pandas and Smokies have been postponed.

That makes you wonder if they thought they were in the clear from last week, and then there was just recently another positive test. Today? Yesterday? Since last week, nine Smokies players have been placed on the Injured List, and you wonder if any (all?) are COVID cases.
I don’t want to speculate on precisely what has happened with the Smokies, how many were vaccinated, etc. We’ve seen even well-vaccinated clubs like the Yankees deal with these issues, so I’m not gonna throw stones. I just wish that everyone gets over this quickly and completely, and that it’s not a situation where a number of key Cubs prospects miss more than a week of game action because of an outbreak on their team.
