The last time the 2021 Chicago Cubs swept a team? That was all the way back on June 13th against the Cardinals. Heck, that was the last time they actually won three games in a row. The Cubs can’t pull off a three-gamer tonight, but a win would technically give them a short, two-game sweep over the Twins.
Then again, a win would also push the Twins ahead of the Cubs in the reverse standings, so … a loss may be more valuable long-term. Then again (again), I really want Justin Steele to do well, so maybe the Cubs offense can go down quietly as Steele otherwise dominates and the Cubs lose. Then again (again (again)), I still want to see Frank Schwindel and Patrick Wisdom continue to succeed given their potential inclusion on next year’s roster, so maybe the offense can pop off and Steele can give the Cubs 6.0+ dominant innings and then the bullpen (but not guys named Codi Heuer, Manny Rodriguez, or Rowan Wick) can blow it.
Is that really too much to ask?
Go Cubs.
