The San Francisco Giants come to Wrigley Field tomorrow for a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs, and while there are always a variety of storylines for any given series, I think the scope on this one is going to be pretty darn narrow.
Kris Bryant, long-time Cub and former Rookie of the Year and MVP and multi-time All-Star and World Series Champion, will be coming back to Chicago for the first time since the Trade Deadline. That will make Bryant the first of the trio of outgoing “core” Cubs traded at the deadline to return to Wrigley Field.
It’s going to generate a lot of attention. And emotions.
Bryant was already in Chicago today, visiting and taking things in ahead of the series opener tomorrow afternoon, and that included a visit to the 2016 mural at HVAC, down the block from Wrigley. The mural has since been updated by Red Bull, one of Bryant’s long-time partners, reflecting that the mural is now more of a thank-you-tribute situation than an ongoing-current-celebration type thing. Fans can visit the mural all weekend to leave their own thanks for Bryant.

“I didn’t really get that closure, so it is nice to go back so quickly and kind of say bye to some of the people that I didn’t get to say bye to.”
