All things considered, Justin Steele’s last two starts were pretty good. He went 5.0 scoreless innings against the Twins in Minnesota two games ago and 5.0 better-than-the-line-suggests innings against the Reds at Wrigley Field his last time out. Steele still needs to figure out how to get over that 70-pitch/third-time-through-the-order hump, but that’s all part of the process. For now, I’ll be happy with baby steps.
Note: The Giants (104 wRC+) have the 9th best offense against left-handed pitching in MLB this season and plenty to play for. This won’t be an easy matchup for Steele.
Note II: The Cubs are off tomorrow and don’t play again until Tuesday night … so get your fill of Cubs baseball now, because you’ll be without it for over 48 hours.
