Enhanced Box Score: Phillies 17, Cubs 8 – September 16, 2021

Chicago Cubs

Starts with the obligatory Thursday Night Football joke because the score looks like a football score ha ha ha ha ha baseball is crazy ha ha aha ha ha.

I’m just so glad that the outcome of games like tonight’s don’t MATTER. I don’t know how I’d cope otherwise. Then again, if the Cubs were in a position where these mid-September games DID matter, they probably wouldn’t be the kind of team that blows 6+ run leads multiple times in a single season, AND loses those games by a lot of runs. That’s really hard to do!

And tonight, the Cubs did it again:

Kyle Hendricks did his best Jake Arrieta impression tonight, staked to a 7-0 lead and then ultimately unable to finish even the 4th inning with that lead intact. From there, the Phillies not only took the lead, but they blew the Cubs out. If there were another Trade Deadline looming, the Cubs would make preparations for another sell-off after tonight.

Full box score.
