LCS Pre-Gamin’: Braves at Dodgers (4:08 CT), Astros at Red Sox (7:08 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

Chicago Cubs

The Houston Astros (1-2) are down two games to one against the Boston Red Sox (2-1) ahead of tonight’s ALCS Game 4 matchup (7:08 CT), which means a loss could put them up against elimination – at Fenway – as soon as tomorrow. Considering the Astros recent playoff shenanigans and the fact that Kyle Schwarber is leading off (while dominating) for the Red Sox, I’d be just fine with that outcome. Bottom Line: Go Red Sox.

But first we’ll get the NLCS Game 3 matchup between the Atlanta Braves (2-0) and Los Angeles Dodgers (0-2). The Braves took both games in Atlanta, so they’ll head to California with a beefy lead in the series. That said, they’re running into a bit of a brick wall tonight against Walker Buehler, but the overall series is still tilting their way. Bottom Line: Go Braves.

Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Dodgers – ALCS Game 4

For real, though, Buehler has been very good this October (3.38 ERA over two starts) and was dominant this season (2.47 ERA). And he was even better at home, where he’ll pitch tonight: 2.05 ERA over 106.0 IP. If the Braves can squeak out a win tonight, I’d call it an upset.

Which is not to say Charlie Morton doesn’t deserve respect. The veteran Braves right-hander has made two post season starts already this October, striking out 14 batters while walking only 2 over 9.1 IP. He is the Braves best starter and the best option to combat Buehler.

Houston Astros at Boston Red Sox – ALCS Game 4

Astros starter Zack Greinke did not have a very Greinke-like season this year, earning just a 4.16 ERA (4.42 FIP) with a ti a 17.2% strikeout rate. He also hasn’t started since October 3rd, with just one inning of relief in the ALDS between then and now. That’s not usually a recipe for success.

With that said, Red Sox starter Nick Pivetta also hasn’t started a game yet this postseason, but at least he’s stayed fresh with 8.2 total innings of relief across two appearances, including 4.2 innings against the Rays in Game 2 of the ALDS and another 4.0 innings of relief in Game 3. I guess we’ll have to see how that unusual allotment will impact his game.
