Good News! Boog Sciambi and Jim Deshaies Are Both Sticking Around on Cubs Broadcasts for a While!

Chicago Cubs

Some positive baseball news! No, it’s not necessarily what you’re hoping or expecting, but it’s good all the same! Or at least it will be once we get to watch some MLB games.

Boog and JD are sticking around for a while:

Boog Sciambi joined Marquee last year as the Cubs’ play-by-play man, replacing long-time broadcaster Len Kasper, who joined the White Sox radio booth. He still does ESPN from time to time, but Boog is one of the best in the business as far as I’m concerned, and the Cubs are fortunate to have him for the games they get.

As for Jim Deshaies, I’m a big fan. Have been since day one, and there were questions about whether he’d stick around much past Kasper’s departure, so I’m very happy to see those questions answered.

Thanks to the adjustment period and the lack of road travel (so they were trying to call games off of a monitor), I don’t think we’ve really gotten the full measure of how good Boog and JD can be together. Individually, I’ve loved each for years, and I think they will increasingly mesh better and better as the years go on – that’s how these booths work. That’s not to say I had an issue with them last year, but I know some folks felt the chemistry wasn’t there. For those folks, I think they’ll find it improves every year. The Cubs have a very good booth, and I can say that with confidence because I routinely watch the other teams’ broadcasts for a few innings each Cubs game.
