It’s very unlikely that high school outfielder Druw Jones, one of the top prep bats in the draft (and son of former stud big leaguer Andruw Jones), will last to the Chicago Cubs’ pick at number seven overall. It’s a really great draft group at the top, but Jones is likely to go within the first five picks. Maybe even first overall.
That said, it’s still fun to follow his season, like those of the other top draft prospects this year. And Jones just gave us an incredible highlight: right in the middle of hostile road chants of “overrated” – an absolutely ridiculous thing to do to a high school kid, by the way – Jones sent one WAAAAAY out to center.
Absolutely perfect moment:
Saw Druw Jones tonight (son of Andruw), my top prospect for the 2022 draft.
Hostile road crowd and faced 90-93 mph from Georgia State commit Brady Jones.
Amidst chants of “overrated” he hits a rocket dead central. Friend helped me with a side angle @espn @jones_druw pic.twitter.com/8huUGVhFUG

Bonus props for the stare down walk, the bat toss, and then the shush as he approached home plate. He earned every bit of that.
