Kyle Schwarber, with his monster 2021 season (sigh) and with the addition of the DH to the National League, has found himself a plenty wide market for his services this offseason. He’s likely to get a really substantial deal, and I say good for him.
Things finally seem to be picking up among the bats, and I wonder if things are about to move quickly. To that end, that’s why these multiple reports catch my eye (especially since it is not the Cardinals or Brewers, who’d been rumored to be connected to Schwarber):
Blue Jays are making a big push for star free agent OF/DH Kyle Schwarber, who’s very popular off an outstanding season in a market where teams suddenly need extra hitters. Many teams have been trying but Toronto is among the frontrunners.

The Blue Jays reportedly have a strong interest in Kyle Schwarber. 👀 https://t.co/TsOjtSrWao pic.twitter.com/ViITUHyyr6

The Cubs were not likely to seriously pursue Schwarber after letting him go a year earlier, though obviously he said all the nice and right things about being willing to come back. I’ll be really interested to see what kind of contract Schwarber gets, as it’ll probably imply what the signing team believes about his ability to contribute in the outfield and/or at first base, when needed.
