Tigers Continuing Stealing Cubs Essence: Andrew Chafin to Detroit

Chicago Cubs

First, they took grabbed Jeimer Candelario and Isaac Paredes in a trade. Then, they signed Javy Báez in free agency. And now, they’re taking our once-favorite failed starter (and someone I hoped the Cubs could re-acquire), Andrew Chafin!

A curse on your house, Detroit!

The Cubs have been really good at building successful bullpens on the cheap these last several years, but that’s a pretty darn affordable deal for Chafin, who combined for a 1.83 ERA (3.01 xERA) for the Cubs and A’s last season.

The Cubs still figure to add a sure-fire reliever before the start of the season (especially after the news of Codi Heuer’s Tommy John surgery), but it won’t be Chafin. Bummer.

The Tigers are approaching an organizational corner-turn, and a reliever like Chafin certainly makes a lot of sense for then. Good signing. Wish it were the Cubs.
