MLB Announces that the 2022 Draft Will Take Place During the All-Star Festivities
Today, Major League Baseball announced that it will once again stage its annual amateur draft during the All-Star festivities, and also announced its draft combine event for June.
The draft will take place from Sunday to Tuesday, spanning the same days as the Futures Game, the Home Run Derby, and the All-Star Game:

The first two rounds, plus the competitive balance picks and the first compensatory round, will take place that Sunday night, after the Futures Game, on July 17. Then you’ll have rounds 3 through 10 on Monday during the day (before the Derby), and then round 11 through 20 on Tuesday during the day (before the All-Star Game). I don’t love having all of this crunched up together, but with MLB never able to draw much interest in its draft, I understand why they are doing this from a promotional perspective.
The Cubs will pick 7th overall this year, and it’s a particularly good draft up at the top.
