It’s a late one tonight. We’ve got an 8:05 CT start time against the Reds, with Marcus Stroman on the mound in (what should be) his second-to-last start of the spring. Yep. We’re almost there now. That went fast.
The Cubs lineup is full of regulars today, with one notable exception: Alexander Canario getting another start at DH. Canario has already been optioned to High-A, and is/was never anything close to a threat to make the team, but it’s still fun to see him whenever possible.
With Ian Happ still not playing the field and Seiya Suzuki getting a day off, the Cubs outfield looks a little weird from left to right (Frazier – Heyward – Hermosillo) and I still don’t know how this is going to shake out. Frazier could be optioned to Iowa. Hermosillo could be lost on waivers. Ortega could be traded. Heyward should could be DFA’d, and so on.
Point being, unless the Cubs want to carry one fewer pitcher than we expected early on, one of those outfielders may be out the door. And based on his playing time in center field, Heyward does not seem to be that one.
