Another data point on the ever-increasing value of major sports franchises, this time from Sportico.
Joining the annual Forbes valuations – this year, having the Chicago Cubs worth $3.8 billion – Sportico values the top MLB clubs thusly:
âš¾ï¸ MLB Valuations âš¾ï¸
1 – @yankees ($7.01 billion)
2 – @RedSox ($5.07 billion)
3 – @Dodgers ($4.89 billion)
4 – @Cubs ($4.43 billion)
5- @SFGiants ($3.70 billion)Full list: https://t.co/FPWlnGhefQ pic.twitter.com/XhG2lx6Ioi

The Sportico valuations roughly track the order of those by Forbes, though they come in about 10 to 15% higher. And, to be fair to Sportico, when teams go up for sale (Nationals up next?), they tend to land market valuations higher than these kinds of estimates. Almost like owning an MLB franchise is a good equity play.
For the Chicago Cubs, a $4.43 billion valuation is a 7% increase from last year’s mark at Sportico. (It is more than the expected asking price for Chelsea FC, and perhaps that will provide some solace to the Ricketts Family now that they are out of that bidding … )
