Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 4, Rays 2 – April 18, 2022
I like all Cubs wins, but for some reason, seeing them take the lead late in this one and hold on was a particularly satisfying win. Different style than the games at Coors Field, that’s for sure.
That Patrick Wisdom homer was a titanic shot, Ian Happ played hero late with a two-out RBI single, and Frank Schwindel added an oppo insurance shot. Oh, and Seiya Suzuki had another great night, but that’s just passé at this point.

Kyle Hendricks was better than in Pittsburgh, both by the results and by the look of his changeup (which, paired with some solid two-seamers led to 13 whiffs). The command was still not close what it needs to be for Peak Kyle, but it was much more playable than last week.
Keegan Thompson thereafter was just so nasty tonight. My word. The stuff looked so crisp, he looked so confident, and he got 10 whiffs on just 39 pitches (and he got whiffs on ALL of his four-seamer, cutter, curveball, and changeup). Those 39 pitches were enough to get him through 3.2 innings. Just as good as an outing like that can get.
David Robertson, who is totally the closer now, finished it off with some beautiful pitches in the 9th.
