The Cubs dropped the opener against the Pirates, and now need to take all three this weekend to win the series.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
1. Nick Madrigal, 2B
2. Seiya Suzuki, RF
3. Willson Contreras, DH
4. Frank Schwindel, 1B
5. Patrick Wisdom, LF
6. Jonathan Villar, 3B
7. Yan Gomes, C
8. Michael Hermosillo, CF
9. Nico Hoerner, SS
The Cubs load up on righties against old friend, Jose Quintana. It didn’t work out in Pittsburgh, as he had that outside changeup working well (or the Cubs didn’t see it well … ), but it’s still the right approach given Quintana’s horror show against righties the last few years.
I dig that David Ross is getting creative with Patrick Wisdom to keep him in there, but I’ve got mixed feelings on whether this is the better approach, or if it should’ve been Clint Frazier in left and Wisdom at third. Villar needs to convince me that there isn’t something really wrong with his defense at third. (UPDATE: Frazier has appendicitis, so that’s why he’s out.)
As usual, we’ll have your full pre-gamin’ post closer to game time (1:20 CT 7:05pm CT).
