The Cubs have stumbled a bit after a nice start to the season. But after winning in extras last night, they have a chance to take two out of three in Atlanta. And that’s never a bad outcome.
Of course, the Cubs will have their work cut out for them in this one. Not only will Drew Smyly be tasked with the return of Ronald Acuña Jr., but the Cubs offense will also have to face a red-hot Kyle Wright.
Wright has recorded 26 strikeouts (against just 2 walks) in his three starts this season, good for a 39.4% strikeout rate and 3.0% walk rate. He’s also been keeping the ball on the ground, limiting the hard contact, and generally preventing runs (2 ER overall, 1.06 ERA).
The Cubs may have one of the lowest strikeout teams in MLB this season, but they’re about to run into one of best strikeout performers of the year.
