The Cubs have a double-header on tap today (Game 1 starts just after noon), and Clayton Kershaw is taking the mound for the Dodgers. Here’s the Cubs lineup for the opener.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:Â
1. Willson Contreras, C
2. Seiya Suzuki, RF
3. Yan Gomes, DH
4. Patrick Wisdom, LF
5. Frank Schwindel, 1B
6. Nico Hoerner, SS
7. Jonathan Villar, 3B
8. Michael Hermosillo, CF
9. Nick Madrigal, 2B
SP: Drew Smyly, LHP
It’s a righty-packed lineup this afternoon, with even Ian Happ taking a seat in favor of Patrick Wisdom in left field. That move opens up third base for Jonathan Villar, who’s been a defensive liability at the position all season (… which is why he hasn’t played there since April 22 against the Pirates). I’m not sure I love it, but double-header lineups are always a little sub-optimal for obvious reasons. And it’s not like we were never going to see Villar there again.
Beyond that, Willson Contreras is getting a chance to lead off and Michael Hermosillo is getting the rare start in center field.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (12:05 CT).
