Chicago Cubs

Let’s try that again, shall we?

Daniel Norris is taking the mound as the Cubs opener tonight, which is just a thing they do now, I suppose. Let’s hope he can give the Cubs two solid innings of work before handing it over to someone else for the leg work.

Meanwhile, a similar Cubs lineup to the one deployed this afternoon will be going up against Tyler Anderson, who is somehow the “worst” starting pitcher the Cubs will face this weekend (2.55 ERA and 2.79 xERA).

The good news is that Anderson doesn’t strike a ton of batters out (21.4%) and the Cubs have been slightly above average against LHP this season (103 wRC+, 14th in MLB) … not that it helped them against Clayton Kershaw. The bad news is that he doesn’t walk a ton of guys and batters are hitting just .204 off him, as he’s allowed just an 83.5 MPH average exit velocity, 3rd lowest in MLB for anyone with at least 15.0 IP.

The Cubs are one of just five teams without double-digit wins yet.
