The big league Cubs couldn’t quite pull off the comeback win last night (short by mere inches), but the High-A South Bend Cubs pulled off a crazy one of their own.
The Cubs went down early, and were trailing 7-2 by the time the bottom of the 6th came around. That’s when Owen Caissie blasted his first homer of the year – a grand slam – and the game was suddenly within reach. Luis Verdugo later tied the game with an RBI single, and the game stayed tied until the 9th.
That’s when first base prospect Matt Mervis crushed his second homer of the game, this time of the walk-off variety. Enjoy the comeback:
