Pre-Gamin’: Cubs at Diamondbacks (3:10 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread
Justin Steele is taking the mound for the Cubs this lovely Sunday afternoon, looking to bring home a second consecutive series win for Chicago. And he’ll be going up against a Diamondbacks squad that has struggled with left-handed pitching all season (83 wRC+, 27th in MLB). Not a bad matchup for your first game back from … whatever that hand/finger/knuckle injury was all about.
The Cubs, meanwhile, will face swing starter (and excellent name-haver) Humberto Castellanos, who’s coming off two pretty solid starts against Miami (combined): 11.0 IP, 8H, 3ER, 1BB, 8Ks. The Cardinals got to him big time just before that (five runs in 2.0 IP), but he’s had more good starts than bad starts this season.
Castellanos is primarily a sinker-slider-curveball guy, but he’ll occasionally mix in a change up and a four-seamer, just to keep hitters honest. He doesn’t throw hard and he doesn’t strike a lot of guys out, but he also doesn’t walk many batters. So the Cubs will have to get lucky with their balls in play today. I like both matchups for the Cubs, overall.
