Marcus Stroman is officially back! Activated off of the undesignated IL (aka the COVID IL, but not officially that), Stroman will start tonight for the Cubs against the Diamondbacks.
To make room for Stroman on the active roster, per reports, the Cubs placed reliever Michael Rucker on the 15-day Injured List with turf toe. That’s one of those injuries that can be quite serious or rather mild, so we’ll have to see what’s up. Although it’s been almost exclusively low-leverage, Rucker has pitched pretty well so far this year.
To make room for Stroman on the 40-man roster, the Cubs are transferring Alec Mills to the 60-day IL. Mills was already long out with back and quad issues, but this transfer means he cannot return until June 6 (like David Bote, who just started a rehab assignment at Iowa, by the way).
