After a rare off-day on a Friday, the Chicago Cubs are back in action tonight. And it’s a good one. Keegan Thompson steps back into the rotation for a primetime Saturday night matchup on FOX against Johnny Cueto and the White Sox.
The White Sox signed Cueto, 36, to a minor league deal this spring, and he made four starts at Triple-A before being promoted to Chicago. And although Cueto got hit around a little bit in the minors, he’s been really good in his two big league starts this season:
@NYY: 6.0 IP, 6H, 0ER, 2BB, 5Ks
@KCR: 6.0 IP, 2H, 0ER, 2BB, 7Ks
I mean … that’s just. What a turnaround. I think I’m somewhat happy for him. I’ve always liked Cueto, even as I hate when he faces the Cubs: 3.48 ERA over 165.1 IP against the Cubs.
Meanwhile Keegan Thompson has made two starts for the Cubs so far this season, first going 4.0 innings with 5 hits, 2 walks, and 2 earned runs against the Padres in San Diego and then lasting 5.0 scoreless innings against the Pirates at Wrigley Field (4H, no walks, 5Ks). He’s also gone *at least* 2.2 innings in every other appearance this year, and has a 1.54 ERA overall.
GO CUBS.
