Marcus Stroman is on the mound for the Cubs this afternoon, coming off a solid start against the Reds with a season-high 8 strikeouts. This is his third start since coming off the COVID-IL, and he’s got a nice little stretch brewing, including the two starts before his break:
Marcus Stroman's last four starts: 2.35 ERA
23.0 IP, 17H, 6ER, 3BB, 22Ks(!)

Our old friend Dylan Cease is starting against the Cubs this afternoon, and he’s had a really mixed bag lately, with one nice start against the Royals between two blowups against the Yankees and Red Sox. Take a look:
5/12: 4.0 IP, 6H, 6ER, 2BB, 11Ks
5/17: 5.2 IP, 7H, 0ER, 2BB, 9Ks
5/24: 3.0 IP, 8H, 7ER, 2BB, 4Ks
That’s 13 earned runs combined on the 12th and 24th and 5.2 scoreless in-between. The strikeouts are elevated throughout the season (35.3 K%), but clearly you can get to him. So don’t get discouraged if the Cubs are whiffing early, it might only be a matter of time before the dam breaks.
