The Cubs are back at it against the Cardinals tonight for the second-half of a double-header.
Andre Pallante is “starting” this game for St. Louis, but it’ll be the first big league start of his career – he started 22 games in the minors last season, but he’s been more of a multi-inning reliever for the Cardinals this year, and a pretty good one at that: 1.07 ERA over 25.1 IP.
That’s always been the Cardinals M.O. with young pitchers, bringing them up first as a reliever to expose them to big league hitters before eventually moving them into the rotation. The Cubs kind of got that from them.
Of course the Cubs have a young arm of their own making his first big league start and that’s top pitching prospect Caleb Kilian. You can read everything you need to know about Kilian below. Incidentally, Kilian’s last start came against the Cardinals Triple-A squad and it was his worst outing of the year. Probably just a coincidence. 🙂
