No waiting around for further testing on Monday – the Cubs already know Wade Miley is going back on the Injured List.
Just three innings into his return from a shoulder strain, Miley returns to the Injured List with … a shoulder strain. I expect there will be further imaging done to determine the extent of the issue, but given that it popped right back up as soon as he want into game action, I’m thinking this will not be a minimum stay. The target should be having him back and fully healthy by mid-July, in case the Cubs want to be able to show other teams that he’s healthy and effective through at least a few starts.
Per reports, Michael Rucker has been called back up to take Miley’s spot on the roster for now, and provide some additional bullpen depth. Keep in mind, the Cubs’ rotation is currently a maybe-not-healthy Kyle Hendricks, Justin Steele, Keegan Thompson, and tonight’s starter, Matt Swarmer. So another starter is needed, whether it’s bringing back Caleb Kilian for a spot, or letting Alec Mills take a start. It’s a mess.
