When the only reason to even pay the most remote of attention to a game after the first couple innings is to see if a guy might hit for the cycle, it was not a good day.
Keegan Thompson couldn’t get out of the first inning (he was wild and he also didn’t get any help behind him), Daniel Norris got blown up thereafter, Sean Newcomb got blown up late, and Alec Mills had the best day of the lot because he ONLY gave up two runs over his 3.1 innings. Frank Schwindel comes in second place, giving up just one run in his inning work. Dropped his ERA.
Offensively, the Cubs got their first hit with a runner in scoring position since last Sunday, snapping an 0-48 streak. Ian Happ got that hit, and also had a triple and a homer in the game. He was on deck when the game ended, so we didn’t even get to see him have a shot at the double. Perfect ending.
