The Cubs are currently riding the struggle bus, with 8 straight losses and one of the worst records in MLB …. Buuuuut tonight, we get to see Caleb Kilian on the mound for the second time this season, and I am very excited about that. You cannot break my spirit (any further). Here’s the group that’ll take the field behind him against the lefty, Ryan Weathers.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Christopher Morel, CF
- Willson Contreras, DH
- Patrick Wisdom, RF
- Frank Schwindel, 1B
- Yan Gomes, C
- Ian Happ, LF
- Nico Hoerner, SS
- Jonathan Villar, 2B
- P.J. Higgins, 3B
SP: Caleb Kilian
With a lefty on the mound, Jason Heyward is finally getting a day on the bench (though he has started against several lefties lately), which opens up right field.
But with Ian Happ and Christopher Morel already in the game, Seiya Suzuki on the IL, and Rafael Ortega also a lefty batter, who is going to fill that spot? Patrick Wisdom, of course! Flex that flexibility, my man.
This is not Wisdom’s first start in the outfield this season, but it is his first start in right. He’s now started in both infield and both outfield corners (and even covered some center field for a game). Never hurts to demonstrate positional flexibility. Anyway, that choice leaves third base open for the Cubs third catcher/backup corner infielder P.J. Higgins.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (7:05 CT).
