I’d say I’m grateful this is the last game against the Padres in this dreadful series at Wrigley Field, but the Braves are waiting in line for the next crack at the Cubs. Also, Joe Musgrove is on the mound this afternoon, and he’s been absolutely lights out this season. In fact, he’s firmly in the conversation for NL Cy Young, at least as it stands here in mid-June.
Matt Swarmer has the unpleasant duty of going up against Musgrove, following his first bad start of the season against the Yankees in New York (not an easy place to pitch). I still don’t know what Swarmer actually is, as in if he’s ever going to be anything other than a fill in starter or some sort of long-reliever, but he did make two really excellent starts against the Cardinals and Brewers (combined: 12.0 IP, 7H 2ER, 3BB, 11Ks), so I’m happy to see what else he can do.
Also, man … Cardinals, Brewers, Yankees, Padres is a tough draw for your first four MLB starts.
1:20 Start time. Go Cubs.
