The Chicago Cubs have won their first series in a month, and since it came against the Atlanta Braves, that means the Cubs have won the 2021 World Series! Incredible!
In all seriousness, the Cubs winning the first two games of this series (after losing 10 in a row), and the Braves losing the first two games of this series (after winning 14 in a row), is just some perfect cantpredictball stuff. It’s why we watch.
I loved seeing Justin Steele put together another serviceable outing, even as he got into trouble in the 5th that ended his day early. He got OUT of that trouble, too, which was an impressive experience for him.
I also loved seeing Alfonso Rivas come up and immediately contribute with a couple hits and a walk. I still believe there’s a complementary big league bat in there, but he’s gotta work through the league’s offspeed adjustment to him the first time around this year.
I also loved seeing every single Cubs starter notch at least one hit today. That’s always fun.
I also loved seeing the Cubs’ bullpen once again strong, especially Scott Effross, who is bouncing back just fine from the first inkling of a blip for him.
