Happy Father’s Day! At this time next year, I’ll be enjoying my first Father’s Day as a father (the wife is due in October). But today, I’ll just be nursing a bachelor party hangover, moving some boxes to our new place in the burbs, and watching the Cubs look to complete an improbable sweep of the Braves.
Coming into this series, the Braves had won 14 straight and the Cubs had lost 10 straight and yet here we are on the doorstep of a sweep with Kyle Hendricks on the mound coming off a solid start against the Padres: 5.0 IP, 4H, 1ER, 0BB, 6Ks.
It’s been a real roller coaster year for Hendricks, with five really great starts, five really horrible starts, and three right there in-between. He did go through a period of shoulder fatigue/dead arm, and since says he feels great though. So maybe we’ll see him go on a nice little mid-summer run here.
Ian Anderson is standing opposite Hendricks, and is also not having a great year (4.81 ERA). He was just touched up by the Nationals in a 4.0 inning start (6 hits, 4 walks) and has already walked 30 batters in 12 games this season. In other words, the results haven’t been good, the peripherals haven’t been good, and the Cubs can absolutely get to him.
