After being outscored 19-2 through their first two games against the Pirates this week, the 2022 Chicago Cubs are just one game ahead of the pace set by the 2012 Cubs through their first 68 games. And they’re three games BEHIND the 2013 Cubs. Ouch.
But I am choosing to set that aside for tonight for two reasons. First, it’s been a while since winning games this season has even mattered. So whatever. But second, and more importantly, Keegan Thompson is starting again tonight coming off a really great performance against the Atlanta Braves – a performance he needed desperately.
After getting absolutely rocked in back-to-back starts against the Orioles and Yankees, Thompson turned up the heat against Atlanta: 6.0 IP, 2H, 0ER, 2BB, 9Ks. And I hope to see more of that tonight.
Go Cubs.
