Tonight, the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals will kick off a three game series at Busch Stadium on AppleTV+.
Kyle Hendricks is on the mound for the Cubs, coming off a horrible start against the Braves: 4.1 IP, 8H, 6ER, 1BB, 6Ks. He allowed two homers in that one and has now allowed 13 homers this season. There have been flashes of the old guy in there, but he’s been inconsistent – at best – since the beginning of last season.
Hendricks will be going up against the 23-year-old Andre Pallante, who’s just moved into the Cardinals rotation from the bullpen earlier this month. As a starter, Pallante has been a little wild, but is otherwise limiting the damage in his very young career: .226/.328/.302 (.291 wOBA). He throws a mid-90s four-seamer, while mixing in a slider at 86 MPH and a curveball at 76 MPH. He’ll throw the occasional sinker, but not often.
Righties have had a lot more success off Pallante than lefties, so we’ll see if that matters tonight.
Go Cubs.
