The Cubs could steal a series in St. Louis with a win this afternoon, but to do so, they’ll need Adrian Sampson to repeat his last (surprisingly dominant) outing against the Braves: 12 whiffs in just 56 pitches and 4.2 scoreless innings of relief with 5Ks and just 1 hit.
They’ll also have to hit Miles Mikolas, which is almost never easy (2.64 ERA this season). Then again, the Cubs actually handed him his second worst start of the season back on June 3 at Wrigley Field: 5.0 IP, 8H, 4ER, 3BB, 4Ks.
Lost season or not, I ALWAYS want to beat the Cardinals. Let’s see if they’ve got it in them. Go Cubs.
