Most folks around here know there is an extensive history between shortstop Javy Báez and reliever Amir Garrett, extending to their days on the Cubs and Reds, respectively. Lots and lots and lots of interactions.
Well, the feistiness did not cease just because the players left their NL Central teams. Indeed, the two are now together in the AL Central, and with the Tigers and Royals playing each other tonight … it all happened again:
That looks very similar to what we’ve seen before from these two. Amir Garrett, who is not the head-down-walk-off-the-field type after a big strikeout, was celebrating a big moment in the game. He also seemed to say something as he was celebrating, which prompted a response from Javy Báez, who’d been waiting on deck to face Garrett.
Báez took it out into the field with him, as Garrett continued to chirp from the dugout. And, although you can’t quite make out all the words, you can certainly see, uh, that Javy was suggesting something visually. I think it had to do with him wanting Garrett to take the mound again in the 7th so he could face Báez. If he had the … well, you know.
And I say: as long as no one gets hurt, let this beef live on forever!
