This is about as bad as an on-field injury gets. I really hope everyone is okay, particularly Profar. And I’d warn you that the video and images are a little gut-wrenching.
In the top of the 5th inning of tonight’s matchup between the Giants and Padres, shortstop C.J. Abrams collided with outfielder Jurickson Profar on a pop-up to left field.
Just look at where Abrams knee smashed into Profar’s head, sending his neck backwards in the process:
But as if that weren’t scary enough, things only got worse from there.
After a few minutes laying flat/being checked out by the trainer, and a few moments sitting up with his head between his knees, Profar tried to get up and walk off the field. It was then that he collapsed while walking, appearing to lose consciousness.
According to Shaun O’Neill (Padres.com), this is when the EMTs made their way onto the field and carted a conscious Profar away. Profar has since been taken to UC San Diego Medical Center for evaluation, with no further word on his status immediately available.
I’ll leave you with the fist pump to the crowd, as he made his way off the field.
