The Cubs played ANOTHER extra-inning game. And the Cubs lost ANOTHER extra-inning game.
Will Smith walked it off for the Dodgers in the 10th after they had tied it off of David Robertson in the bottom of the 9th (single, walk, groundout, walk, sac fly; Robertson seems to be in a poorly-timed funk with the wildness … ).
The loss obscures another fantastic start from Keegan Thompson, who would’ve gone six scoreless if not for a Seiya Suzuki error with two outs in the 6th. It was a really, really bad drop. I love Suzuki, and we haven’t seen any defensive issues so far, so I can forget it, but woof. It was just a straight up drop:
Otherwise, Thompson was on fire.
The Cubs got their runs on an Ian Happ double and a Nico Hoerner homer, but the Suzuki error, a Jake Lamb homer off of Chris Martin, and the 9th inning troubles for Robertson disappeared the lead. The Cubs are in so many of these games … they just can’t win them.
