With their loss yesterday, it’s confirmed that the Cubs’ series win streak has come to an end at four. I guess they can still split if they win out … so maybe this was always just a series loss-less streak, not a winning streak. Yeah, let’s go with that.
Marcus Stroman (shoulder) is coming back to make his first big league start since June 3 and just his 10th start of the season. His last time out was the disaster outing against the Cardinals (9 earned runs) and he hasn’t been quite right all year (though there have been a few gems sprinkled in).
As for Clayton Kershaw, the 34-year-old is still going strong, with just two bad starts out of 10 this season. Overall, he’s got a 2.57 ERA with 59Ks in 56.0 IP. His last start, against the Padres, was especially good: 7.0 IP, 4H, 0ER, 1BB, 8Ks.
And Willson Contreras is back!
Go Cubs.
