Yesterday, Justin Steele turned 27. On the same day, his son turned 0. Which is to say, Justin Steele and his wife welcomed a new baby boy to the world yesterday.
But he’s right back to work:
So, officially, Steele returns to the rotation, starting tomorrow, and Anderson Espinoza heads back to the minors.
This time it’s effectively a promotion for Espinoza, who had been starting (mostly unsuccessfully) at Double-A Tennessee. I’d really like to see the Cubs use him out of the bullpen at Triple-A Iowa the rest of the way so that they can get a better sense – as good as possible – about how his pitches are coming along in that role before the offseason. It’s possible a 40-man squeeze pops up, and the Cubs are going to want to know as much about Espinoza as they can before they might have to make a decision.
