The Cubs and Mets almost have exactly flipped records. I don’t have a follow-up to that. I just thought you should know.
Keegan Thompson is taking the ball tonight for the Cubs, following a really impressive start against the Dodgers in Los Angeles: 5.2 IP, 2H, 0ER, 1BB, 8Ks. That’s a damn good line against an elite team in their own ballpark. It’s nothing new, though, as Thompson has been excellent for five straight starts: 1.93 ERA, 35Ks, 7 walks in 28.0 IP.
In fact, he’s been even better than his results reveal, as development has trumped maximizing his performance lately (David Ross has left him in a bit longer lately to battle through some of those third and fourth-time through at-bats). Let’s see if he can do it again against another tough team.
Carlos Carrasco, by contrast, has not had as much luck lately. He is coming off two better starts against the Rangers and Marlins, but he’s got a 5.43 ERA over his last 11 games, mostly on the strength of some loud contact (40.5 hard%). Lefties are crushing Carrasco this season, so look to the southpaws for some extra offense tonight.
Go Cubs.
