The headline speaks for itself a bit, no? Arizona Diamondbacks minor leaguer Leandro Cedeno is crushing the ball this year, his first in the Diamondbacks organization after stalling out with the Cardinals.
But the fact that Cedeno has hit 18 homers this year couldn’t necessarily prepare you for just how far he hit his latest. Mammoth doesn’t begin to describe it:
That thing just keeps going, and going, and going. I mean, there are fans out there in center field, WELL beyond the wall, who aren’t even moving and are looking behind them to try to find the ball. I’m not even sure THEY could see where it landed!
And in case you wondered if there were some shenanigans on the 527 feet marker, the Sod Poodles confirmed the distance with their in-house data tracking:
How does that translate to 527 feet? Well, as you can see, Cedeno hit the ball incredibly hard and at a steep angle, but also created a ton of backspin that must’ve just kept that thing afloat. Throw in the fact that Amarillo has some decent elevation, and you have the recipe for an absurdly-distanced home run.
