Was it smart to let the All-Star starting lineups drop at the exact same time Day 2 of the MLB Draft is starting? Nope! That’s MLB for ya, though.
As you know by now, the Cubs are sending two representatives to the 2022 MLB All-Star Game in Los Angeles (tomorrow night), Willson Contreras and Ian Happ. The former is making his third All-Star start behind the plate, and the latter hopes to get in the game sometime down the line. In the meantime, I thought you might want to see the starting lineups, especially because Willson and his brother William, who’s the starting DH representing the Braves, are hitting back-to-back!
NL Starting Lineup:
- Ronald Acuña Jr., RF
- Mookie Betts, CF
- Manny Machado, 3B
- Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
- Trea Turner, SS
- Willson Contreras, C
- William Contreras, DH
- Joc Pederson, LF
- Jeff McNeil, 2B
SP: Clayton Kershaw, LHP
Willson is slashing .253/.366/.455 (133 wRC+) this season, his final under club control with the Cubs. He is largely expected to be traded over the next two weeks. William is slashing .260/.345/.532 (142 wRC+).
AL Starting Lineup:
- Shohei Ohtani, DH
- Aaron Judge, RF
- Rafael Devers, 3B
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 1B
- Giancarlo Stanton, LF
- Byron Buxton, CF
- Tim Anderson, SS
- Andres Gimenez, 2B
- Alejandro Kirk, C
SP: Shane McClanahan, LHP
Shohei Ohtani is leading off for the AL, and although was added to the All-Star team as both a starter *and* a DH, he has reportedly asked not to pitch in the event.
