Even with a week to go before the MLB Trade Deadline, today definitely had a bit of “final” feeling to it. The final game at Wrigley Field (at least this season … ) for Willson Contreras, after 13 years in the organization. And maybe also the final game at Wrigley Field for Ian Happ, about whom the trade buzz has picked up considerably.
Whether they know something we don’t, or whether it was just a matter of taking the opportunity for a special moment while you are sure you still have the chance, the two long-time Cubs gave me all kinds of emotions after today’s win.
If you weren’t able to watch the broadcast, after the game, it was very clear that both Happ and Contreras were making this a special one. Happ, with the outfield bleachers. Contreras, with each of his teammates. And the two of them, together in the dugout.
Here’s me taking a deep breath and watching/reading the stuff once more so I can share with you. I recommend you do similarly before scrolling.
And we will love you forever, too, Willson:
